Also personally appeared Martha M. Ritchie and Aaron Beebe said Martha M. Ritchie being a resident of Lockport N.Y. and said Aaron Beebe a resident of Wilson in Niagara County and state of New York who are persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit and who being by me duly sworn say that they were present and saw Mary C. Lewis sign her name to the foregoing declaration and they further swear that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of the applicant and their acquaintance with her that she is the Identical person she represents herself to be.
And they further say that Wilson L. Starkie was the son of said Mary C. Lewis by her first husband being a legitimate son. That they learned of the death of Benjamin Starkey who was the father of said Wilson L. Starkey which information was from a letter and from other persons those the applicant and they never heard said death doubted but believe it occurred as stated in said application and that of their own knowledge said Benjamin Starkey has been continually absent for more than seven years being for about eighteen years absent from and unknown at his home and at his former place of residence. That said Wilson L. Starkie died Unmarried leaving no widow or child surviving him and said Mary C. Lewis was his mother and he died leaving his mother who was dependent upon him for support in whole or in part, and since his death and since the passage of the aforesaid act she has not remarried and does’not receive any pension as they believe. That the said Martha M. Ritchie is the daughter of said applicant and said Aaron Beebe is not in any wise related to her the said applicant and they are not as they verily believe interested in the event of this application, except their regard for her the said applicant. Aaron Beebe Martha M. Ritchie Sworn to and subscribed before me this 29th day of August A.D. 1862 and I hereby certify that I have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim.
