I Dorothea Ridgway of Mount Holly in the County of Burlington and State of New Jersey do make and publish this as my last will and testament ~~~
firstly, I will and order that all my just debts and funeral charges be fully paid immediately after my decease ~~~ Secondly, I order and authorise my executors herein after named to sell and dispose of all my estate real and personal, within one year after my decease – and after paying off and discharging all my said debts and funeral charges, to part the balance remaining in their hands, out at interest upon good and sufficient security – collect in the interest annually and pay over the same to my sisters Margarett R Read and Eliza H Read, during their joint lives and to the survivor of them – and at the decease of both of them, to pay over the said Interest to my brother Joseph Read (in case he should survive them) during his natural life time – and at the decease of said Margarett, Eliza and Joseph, to call in the principle sum and pay over and divide the same into equal parts between my nephews and nieces Dr Zachariah Read, George R Moorehouse Emily R Davis and Mary Abigail Moorehouse. |
But in case any or either of my said nieces or nephews should die before receiving his or her share but leaves a child or children I give to the child or children of such, deceased nephew or niece the share that the said parent would have been entitled to if living – In case of the decease of said Dr Zachariah Read should die without leaving a lawful child or children I give his share to the said George R Moorehouse, Emily Davis and Mary Moorehouse and the survivor of them – In case of the decease of said George R Moorehouse, Emily Davis and Mary Moorehouse without leaving a lawful child or children I then & in that case give the share of such deceases to the survivor of them and to his, her or their heirs and assigns forever.
thirdly Unto my sister Eliza H Read I give and bequeath all my silver plate – notwithstanding the above disposition of my estate ~~~ I Nominate and appoint my sisters Margarett R Read and Eliza H Read Executrix’s & my nephew George R Moorehouse Executor of this my last will and testament – in Witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal the thirty first day of March AD eighteen hundred & forty nine signed sealed published and declared } The Words “should die” by the said Dorothea Ridgway to be } used before signing her testament & last will in presence } Dorothea Ridgway of us Ann Chapman Margaret Rafall Geo Haywood |
State of New Jersey Burlington County for George Haywood one of the witnesses to the foregoing will being duly sworn according to law did depose and say that he saw Dorothea Ridgway the testatrix therein declared sign and seal the same and heard her publish pronounce & declare the within writing to be her last will and testament; and that at the doing thereof the said Testatrix was of sound and disposing mind and memory as far as he knows and as he verily believes and that Mary Ann Chapman and Margaret Russell the other subscribing {evisances} were present at the same time and signed their names as witnesses to the said will together with this desponent in the presence of the said Testatrix
Sworn & subscribed at Mount } Holly this 3rd day of March } Geo Haywood AD 1851 before me } Benj Buckinair Surrogate State of New Jersey Burlington County Ss: Margaret R Read, Eliza H Read and George R Moorehouse the Executrixes and Executors in the will in Testament named being duly sworn according to laws did severally depose and say that the forgoing instrument contains the full last will and testament of Dorothea Ridgway the Testrix therein named so far as they know and as they verily believe; that they will well and truly perform the same by paying first the debts of the said deceased and then the Legacies in the said Testament specified so far as the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased can there unto extent; and that they will make and exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the suragative office at Trenton a true and perfect inventory {???} all and singular the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased that have or shall come to their knowledge as possession use to the possession of any other person as personal for their use any under a just and true account wheres thereunto lawfully required Sworn and subscribed } Margaret R Read This 3rd day of March } Eliza H Read A D 1851 before me } Geo R Mashown (sic) M.D. Benj’n Buckinair } Surrogate |
