Final Affidavit of Reuben F. Miner for Homestead No. 2931
Final Affidavit Required of Homestead Claimants.
~~~~~~~~~~~ Act of May 20, 1862. And June 8, 1872 ~~~~~~~~~~~ I, Reuben F. Miner , having made a Homestead entry of the North West ¼ section No. 10 in township No. 37 N , of range No. 15 W. subject to entry at Falls St. Croix, Wisconsin under the first section of the Homestead Act of May 20th 1862 , do now apply to perfect my claim thereto by virtue of the first provision to the second section of said act; and for that purpose do solemnly swear that I am a citizen of the United States; that I have made actual settlement upon and have cultivate said land, having resided thereon since the 4th day of March , 1873, to the present time; that no part of said land has been alienated, but that I am the sole bona fide owner as an actual settler; and that I will bear true allegiance to the Government of the United States. I, Reuben F. Miner, do hereby certify that I made the Homestead Entry No. 2931 for the North West ¼ Section 10, Township 37, Range 15 W. on the 4th day of March, 1873, at the Land Office at Falls St. Croix, Wisconsin; that I have now appeared at the said Office to make final proof and have neglected to bring my Homestead Receipt with me. Final Proof required under Homestead Act May 20, 1862.
And June 8th 1872 ~~~~~~~~~~~ WE, Frank T. Williams & Charles Anderson do solemnly swear that we have known Reuben F. Miner for 2 ¾ years last past; that he is the head of a family consisting of a wife & 3 children and is a citizen of the United States; that he is an inhabitant of the NW ¼ of section No. 10 in Township No. 37N. of Range No. 15 W. and that no other person resided upon the said land entitled to the right of Homestead or Pre-emption. That the said Reuben F. Miner entered upon and made settlement on said land on the 4th day of March , 1873, and has built a double house thereon of logs 18 x 24 ft & 16 x 24 ft, one and a half stories high, shingle roof, board floor, with 4 doors & 5 windows & is a comfortable house to live in , and has lived in the said house and made it his exclusive home from the 4th day of March , 1873, to the present time, and that he has, since said settlement, plowed, fenced, and cultivated about 7 acres of said land, and has made the following improvements thereon, to wit: has fenced about 80 acres, has built a stable & has dug well . Nov. 9th 1875 In the matter of the Homestead entry No. 2931 of Reuben F. Miner, dated March 4th 1873. After examining the testimony of Frank T. Williams & Charles Anderson, we are satisfied that Reuben F. Miner has settled upon & improved the NW ¼ sec. 10, Tp. 37, R. 15 W, for 2 yrs 8 mos & 5 days and by his Discharge that he enlisted for 3 years & was discharged for Disability and that he is entitled to perfect his Entry under the Act of 1862 & obtain title to said tract of Land. November 9th, 1875 FINAL CERTIFICATE, } { APPLICATION, No. 1292 } { No. 2931 It is hereby certified, That, pursuant to the provisions of the act of Congress approved May 20, 1862, entitled “An Act to secure homesteads to actual settlers on the public domain,” Reuben F. Miner of Clam Falls, Polk Co. Wis. has made payment in full for --- North West quarter --- of section No. –Ten (10)-- in township No. – Thirty-seven (37) N-- of range No. – Fifteen (15) W. – containing -- One hundred & sixty -- acres. Now, therefore, be it known, That on presentation of this Certificate to the COMMISSIONER OF THE GENERAL LAND OFFICE, the said –Reuben F. Miner – shall be entitled to a Patent for the Tract of Land above described.
