to J & S Shreve {page 598} To all to whom these presents shall come Samuel J Read, Dorothea Ridgway, Joseph Read Margaret Read, George Y Morehouse & Martha his wife late Martha Read Charles Read and Eliza H Read send greeting Whereas Jacob Parker late of the county of Burlington dec’d in his lifetime was indebted unto Joseph Read Esq late of Mount Holly in the county of Burlington aforesaid in the sum of sixty four pounds two shillings and one penny and for the better securing the payment thereof with its interest the said Jacob Parker by a certain indenture of |

Mortgage bearing date the 18th day of January A D 1796 duly proved and recorded in the clerks office of the county of Burlington aforesaid in Book B of mortgages folio 355, mortgage in fee unto the said Joseph Read his heirs and assigns all that messuage, grist mill & saw mill erected & built on a certain tract of land containing about thirty seven acres more or less and laying on north main branch of Rancoca’s creek adjoining lands formerly of John Wright, Isaac Merritt and others which the said Jacob Parker purchased of Solomon Southwick and Rachel his wife by deed dated 24th day of October 1776 and whereas the said Jacob Parker afterwards became further indebted unto the said Joseph Read in divers sums of money and the better to secure the same did again mortgage the same premises in fee unto the said Joseph Read and his heirs to secure the following sums to wit the sum of fifty pounds six shillings & ten pence and the further sum of fifty [four?] pounds one shilling & ten pence and the further sum of one hundred and fifty one pounds nine shillings and two pence with lawful interest for the same the least mentioned mortgage bears the date on the 11th day of November A D 1797 duly proved & recorded in Book B of mortgages folio 511 as by reference to the same will appear and whereas the aforesaid mortgaged premises became the right and inheritance of John Mullen subject neverthe less to the payment of the several sums of money and the interest thereof so as aforesaid secured by the said deeds of mortgage to the said Joseph Read Esq and his heirs and whereas the said Joseph Read Esq. hath departed this life first making his last will and testament in writing which said last will and testament hath been duly proved and recorded in the Surrogates office of the said county of Burlington at Mount holly aforesaid and the said Joseph Read in and by his said last will & testament did give and bequeath unto his wife Martha Read all his real and personal estate and did constitute & appoint the said Martha Read & the aforesaid Samuel J Read executors thereof and the said Samuel J Read having refused to take upon himself the execution of the said last will and testament letters testamentory were duly granted unto the said Martha Read the widow of the said Joseph Read dec’d and whereas the said John Mullen being seized of the said mortgaged premises did by a certain indenture bearing date the 30th March A D 18(16 or 26) --- together with Ann his wife grant & conveyed the same & every part & parcel thereof unto Charles French in fee for the consideration in the said deed mentioned. at which time all the monies due to the said legal representatives of the said Joseph Read dec’d upon the [two?] several mortgages aforesaid were fully paid off and satisfied unto Martha Read the executrix and legatee in the said last will and testament of the said Joseph Read named by the said John Mullen and the said mortgages were given up to be cancelled, but by neglect or inadvertency the said deeds of mortgage have been lost or mislaid so that the same cannot now be had so as to have thence discharged from the records as a lien & incumbrance against the said premises and whereas the said mortgaged premises have by divers mean conveyances became the right & inheritance of Jonathan & Samuel Shreve and their heirs who are now in the quiet & peaceable possession |

of the same Now Know ye that we Samuel J Read, Dorothea Ridgway Joseph Read Margaret Read, George Y Morehouse & Martha his wife, Charles Read and Eliza H Read which same Samuel Dorothea, Joseph Margaret, Martha, Charles and Eliza are are the only children representatives of the said Joseph Read and Martha his wife being perfectly satisfied that all the monies due and secured to be paid to the said Joseph Read dec’d and his representatives by virtue of the said Deeds of mortgages have been fully paid and satisfied in manner aforesaid and in order that the said mortgaged premises be disencumbered & discharged from the said several mortgages aforesaid that the same may be no congers lien and encumbrances against the same premises and at the (special instance and request of the said Jonathan and Samuel Shreve and for the consideration of one cent to us in hand paid by them the said Jonathan & Samuel Shreve do by these presents for ourselves & our heirs grant remise, release and forever quit claim to them the said Jonathan and Samuel Shreve and their heirs all our and each of our estate, right, title interest, & claim which we now have or at any time heretofore might or ought to have had in and to the said mortgaged premises & every part thereof by force and virtue of the said several deeds of mortgages as aforesaid made and executed unto our father the said Joseph Read now dec’d by the said Jacob Parker in his lifetime so that [m??] we the said Samuel J Read, Dorothea Ridgway Joseph Read Margaret Read, George Y Morehouse & Martha his wife, Charles Read and Eliza H Read or either of us shall have or claim our estate right, title or interest in & to the said mortgaged premises or any part thereof under and by Virtue of the several deeds of mortgage but of and from the same shall be forever excluded & debarred by these presents In witness whereof we have set our hands & seals this twenty third day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty two Signed, sealed and delivered in the presence of } Sam’l Read {seal} Geo. Read, George Y Morehouse and Martha his wife, Charles Read and Eliza H. Read who severally acknowledged that they signed, sealed and delivered the foregoing amended released as their voluntary act and deed for the uses & purposes therein specified the contents thereof being first made known by me to them and being satisfied that they are the persons therein named as the grantors And the said Martha Morehouse being by me examined separate and apart from her said husband acknowledged that she signed, sealed and delivered the same freely as her own voluntary act and deed without any fear threats or compulsion from him.
